Pd in the first lower layer catalyst is supported only on the oxygen storage component contained in the first catalyst. The first upper layer catalyst is provided on the first lower layer catalyst, Pd in the first upper layer catalyst being supported on each of the oxygen storage component and Al2O3 contained in the first catalyst.
