Depth information, which indicates a distance in the depth direction of the stereoscopic image of at least one subject contained in the stereoscopic image, is obtained. A depth image is generated by positioning a subject image with relating the distance in the depth direction of the subject to a distance in the depth direction from a reference position to a position of the subject image. Display of the subject image positioned in the depth image is controlled in a manner that the subject image is rotatable about an axis perpendicular to the depth direction, and the depth image with display of the subject image contained therein being controlled to be rotatable is displayed.
