An OCB (Optically Compensated Bend) mode liquid crystal layer is held between the first and second electrode substrates. The first electrode substrate includes a first electrode and a second electrode arranged adjacent to the first electrode. The first and second electrodes respectively include a side opposing each other and a plurality of projecting portions provided to the respective opposing sides of the first and second electrodes alternately.
