A hydrophobic composite may include a plurality of nanostructures elongated from one or more supports and having a configuration characterized by a first hydrophobicity, and at least one substance characterized by a second hydrophobicity and configured to at least partially cover one or more portions of the plurality of nanostructures such that the overall hydrophobicity of the hydrophobic composite is greater than the first hydrophobicity.
