Generating a signal indicative of an information handling system module rank includes generating a connector ID signal when a module is coupled to a chassis connector having a connector ID associated therewith, the connector ID signal being representative of the connector ID, receiving the connector ID signal at a selecting device, and generating a device output signal using the selecting device, the device output signal being indicative of a module rank.
