A certified reference time storage portion 103 stores a certified reference time that permits switching to the maintenance mode. A determining portion 104 determines whether the total maintenance time has reached the certified reference time. When it is determined that the total maintenance time has reached the certified reference time by the determining portion 104, the control portion 101 switches the multifunction peripheral 1 to the maintenance mode to activate the multifunction peripheral 1.
