The method of installing software for using digital content includes: transmitting a request for the software; transmitting security information indicating a security status of a device in which the software is to be installed; and receiving the software from an external apparatus that received the request and security information. According to the method and apparatus, the software can be dynamically securely installed, thereby allowing a variety of digital contents to be used and enhancing the utilization of the device.
