A protocol for communication between a mobile station and a WiMAX signaling forwarding function is generally presented. In this regard, a method is introduced including generating a packet containing a header and a broadband wireless network message, the header to establish communication between a broadband wireless network single radio server and a mobile station in communication with a wireless network of a different standard from the broadband wireless network, storing the packet in a buffer, and transmitting the packet through a core network.
