A computer-implemented method for assessing traffic status with sensors is provided. The method includes receiving sensor readings from a plurality of mobile sensors for detecting a traffic parameter and obtaining traffic information associated with the received sensor readings. The method also includes identifying a change in traffic based on the obtained traffic information and the received sensor reading, and determining whether a traffic incident has occurred based on the identified change.
