An aluminum alloy turbine housing includes an inlet for exhaust, a turbine wheel space configured to receive exhaust via the inlet, a wastegate opening configured to receive exhaust via the inlet and to provide received exhaust to a wastegate chamber, and a locally hardened valve seat surrounding the wastegate opening.
