The second layer is between and in contact with the first the third layers and includes a phthalocyanine-based material. The third layer is between and in contact with the second and EL layers and includes an alkali metal, an alkaline-earth metal, a rare-earth metal, an alkali metal compound, an alkaline-earth metal compound, or a rare-earth metal compound. The phthalocyanine-based material has a metal-oxygen bond.
