In some embodiments, the JEA may facilitate, in various implementations, transaction classification through the use of universal variables and economical interface features. In one embodiment, classification rules for assigning accounting Classes/Subclasses to transactions may be defined. Upon receipt of an indication of a transaction, the transaction is tagged with transaction characteristics. Based on relevant transaction characteristics, accounting Classes/Subclasses may be assigned to the transaction using the applicable classification rules.
