A barrier system is provided for fencing in or closing off a designated area. The barrier system includes a body including a longitudinal element extendable from the body to form a barrier between a first surface and a second surface. At least one coupling member is selectively connectable with the body between a first connection configuration such that the body is coupleable to the first surface or the second surface via the at least one coupling member and a second connection configuration such that the body is directly attachable to the first surface or the second surface.
