A method, apparatus and computer program product for developing, distributing and executing applications are disclosed. A set of modules for use by one or more specific applications is stored in a local database on a mobile device. A specific application configuration, comprising a set of modules used by the specific application and a manner of usage thereof, is stored in the local database. Upon selection of a specific application by a user of the mobile device, a parent application is started with a parameter associated with the specific application. The parent application provides functionality of the specific application by activating the set of modules in accordance with the corresponding configuration, as retrieved from the local database.
