In one illustrative embodiment, the computer implemented method receives a request to attach an attachment to a document, and calls an attachment metadata generator to extract metadata from the attachment to form extracted data. The computer implemented method further generates an extensible markup language fragment from the extracted data, and inserts the extensible markup language fragment into the document.
