A method for controlling a printing apparatus that conveys a sheet includes detecting sheet jamming, determining a number of discharged sheets, and notifying the user to remove the protective member present on a conveyance path if the sheet jamming is detected and the number of discharged sheets is determined to be less than a predetermined number, and notifying the user of the sheet jamming if the sheet jamming is detected and the number of discharged sheets is determined to be equal to or greater than the predetermined number.
