The pumping structure causes a liquid medium to move in a direction from a first axial side of the seal towards or to a second axial side of the seal when the first component rotates relative to a second component. The pumping structure includes at least one pumping groove that extends along a direction of extension and at least one retaining structure disposed in the at least one pumping groove. The at least one retaining structure reduces a cross-section of the at least one pumping groove, in at least one direction perpendicular to the direction of extension, to a value of between 50% and 90% of an extension of the cross-section of the pumping groove outside the at least one retaining structure along the at least one direction.
