The method includes receiving information about video content that is displayed by an external device, displaying the video content displayed by the external device on a screen of the display apparatus, based on the received information, receiving a first input regarding the displayed video content from a user of the display apparatus, displaying at least one first image on a first area of the screen, based on information received for a predetermined period of time in response to receiving the first input, and displaying a second video content on a second area of the screen, based on information received after the receiving of the first input.
