A display apparatus includes an image input unit capable of inputting an image in a first format in which a first resolution in a first direction is higher than a second resolution in a second direction and an image in a second format in which the second resolution is higher than the first resolution, a determination unit configured to determine whether a format of the image input via the image input unit is the first format or the second format, a rotation unit configured to rotate the image such that the first and second directions are replaced with each other, a rotation controller configured to control the rotation unit depending on the format of the image, and a display unit configured to display an output image from the rotation unit.
