The emitted-light-intensity control unit has a polarization control element for controlling the polarization state of the laser light, and a polarizing plate on which the laser light emitted from the polarization control element is incident, and the polarization direction control unit adjusts the polarization direction of display light incident on a projection surface by controlling the polarization direction of the laser light emitted by the emitted-light-intensity control unit.
