The method includes: a sensor is triggered according to a preset trigger rule to make the sensor output a digital signal corresponding to the trigger rule; after receiving the digital signal which is corresponding to the trigger rule and is output from the sensor, ab operation type, which is corresponding to the digital signal, of the mobile terminal is determined; and a corresponding operation process is performed on the mobile terminal according to the operation type. The method for operating the mobile terminal based on the sensor provided in the disclosure completes power-on/off, wakeup, sleep and other operations on the mobile terminal through the sensor, so as to bring better use experience to a user while making the structure of the mobile terminal simpler.
