An apparatus having a binary web service interface to communicate with nodes operationally connected to the apparatus using a binary web service, the nodes having one or more resources, the binary web service interface being configured to receive information from a node whenever a resource of a node changes or whenever a pre-configured event regarding a resource occurs. The apparatus also has an interface for communicating with web applications making use of the resources and ap component for receiving subscriptions regarding the information received from the nodes and providing the subscribed information.
