The drive shaft (18) extends across the orbiting scroll arrangement (7) such that the first and second portions (26, 27) of the drive shaft (18) are located on either side of the orbiting scroll arrangement (7), the first and second guide bearings (29, 30) being located on either side of the orbiting scroll arrangement (7).
