Abstract: A hybrid elastomer/metal on metal motor for a helical gear device includes a rotor and stator comprising a hydraulic motor that produces work when a working fluid is pumped therethrough. The improvement consists of the stator being, for part of its length, a conventional or even wall stator, using an elastomer to form a seal against the moving rotor. The stator's remaining length comprises a profiled rigid surface that forms a seal directly with the moving rotor. This gives the motor the high efficiency of the elastomer sealing against the rotor, and simultaneously provides a backup of the stator's rigid portion allowing continued motor operation at reduced efficiency, if the elastomer part failed in service. The application also discloses combinations of a regular disk stack with a rubber lining, a rigid material disk stack and a circular rigid sleeve which react to rotor sideloading while permitting proper rotor orbiting.

Abstract: A stator for a helical gear device is formed from multiple rigid disks and support rings bonded to the disks. Abstract: A progressing cavity pump has a rotor (62) that moves in an eccentric motion, and is driven by a drive shaft (20) that rotates about a fixed axis. In order to connect the two a coupler (10) is proposed that comprises two parallel plates (12, 14); one with several pins (16) protruding from it, and the other with the same number of holes (28) in it. The holes (28) are sized to allow the eccentric motion of the rotor (62). There may also be a ball (18) between the two plates (12, 14) to transmit loads between the plates.

Abstract: A fluid metering device (30) preferably includes a substantially linear series of intermeshing gears (310, 314). Abstract: Toothed gears and lobed gears intermesh to create large volume pockets in gear sets of a given size. The pockets are larger than the pockets that exist in current tooth or lobe pumps and provide the benefit of a pump that better handles shear sensitive liquids. The toothed gears and lobe gears are preferably involute-shaped and improve upon standard spur and helical gear designs by omitting alternate teeth on the standard toothed gears and filling in corresponding gaps on the mating standard lobed gears. Additional tooth and lobed gear rotors may be added in tandem as additional pairs of gears to the shafts and circumferentially offset to provide driving tooth engagement between at least one pair of the toothed and lobed rotors at every point around the rotational circumference of the rotors. This spur gear or helical gear configuration eliminates the need for separate driving/synchronizing gears.
