Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a crude extract or a fraction of Plantago asiatica as an active ingredient for preventing or treating hyperlipidemia and obesity. The crude drug extract of the present invention has an effect of inhibiting lipid differentiation of 3T3-L1 cells which are fat cells derived from a mouse and has effects on weight loss, body fat reduction, blood lipid level reduction, and histopathological effect for an obesity-induced, using a high hat diet, white rat, thereby can be used as a drug or dietary supplement for preventing or treating hyperlipidemia and obesity.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a production method of an essential oil fraction showing fatty liver control and anti-obesity activity from Angelica gigas Nakai, and a composition having prevention and treatment effects on fatty liver and obesity containing the fraction. The composition of the present invention shows body weight and body fat reduction, blood triglyceride reduction, and intake food amount reduction in obesity induced animals through a high fat diet; and is confirmed to have effects of controlling fat hepatopathy, fat cell hypertrophy, pancreatic islet increase, and the increase of insulin and glucagon producing cells, thereby capable of being practically used for medicines and health functional food for preventing and treating fatty liver and obesity.
