    Abstract: PURPOSE: A grid type channel equalizer in connection with a viterbi decoder is provided to connect with a viterbi decoder, and to couple with an LMS decision feedback channel equalizer, then to automatically select an equalizer having a small output error, thereby improving channel equalization performance in a blind mode and removing signal distortions. CONSTITUTION: An LMS decision feedback channel equalizer(321) uses LMS algorithm by updating equalizer tap coefficients. A grid type decision feedback channel equalizer(322) uses a grid type for channel equalization. An error measurer(323) using segment synchronization measures errors of each equalizer output by using ATSC segment synchronization for output errors of the LMS decision feedback channel equalizer(321) and the grid type decision feedback channel equalizer(322). An equalizer output selector(324) automatically selects an equalizer having a small error based on measured results of the error measurer(323). A viterbi decoder(325) corrects a transmission error in a blind mode.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A fast recursive least square-decision feedback equalizer interworking with a least mean square-decision feedback equalizer is provided to realize a channel equalizer interworking a restarting fast recursive least square-decision feedback equalizer with a least mean square-decision feedback equalizer. CONSTITUTION: An LMS(least mean square) equalizer filter(502) receives and filters external input signals, decided data, and an error calculated value by using updated coefficients and segment synchronization. A restart fast kalman tap coefficient updating unit(501) updates coefficients. A trellis decoder(504) reduces a decision error from signals output from the LMS equalizer filter. An error calculating unit(505) calculates the error value by using each output value of the LMS equalizer filter and segment synchronization.
