Abstract: A portable terminal and a rotary hinge unit thereof are provided to improve a UI environment to conveniently watch DMB programs for many hours by enabling the rotation angle of a display part to be adjusted in an opened state. A rotary hinge unit(400) in a portable terminal, which consists of a main body, a folder, and a connection member to connect the main body with the folder, comprises a housing unit, a cam unit, elastic members(430) and a shaft(4202). The housing unit, composed of a main hinge housing(410), an upper hinge housing(412), and an auxiliary cover(414), is installed at the connection member. The cam unit includes a central cam part(420) and a pair of side cam parts(422). The central cam part(420) has at least more than three cam sides. The side cam parts(422), moving in the direction of getting near to or going away from the central cam part(420) as the folder rotates, maintain a closely attached state with selected cam sides. Installed in the housing unit, the cam unit adjusts the rotation angle of the folder through a cam motion with the selected cam sides. The elastic members(430), installed in the housing unit, sticks the side cam parts(422) fast to the selected cam sides. The shaft(4202) is extended in the lengthened direction of the central cam part(420).
