Abstract: PURPOSE: A handoff control method for supporting a mobile host in an internet multi-cast environment is provided to check a network characteristic and environment, and to select one system between a system making a router of a new network re-register at a multi-cast group to maintain location information of the mobile terminal and a system registering self location in a router of a network wherein an internet address is firstly assigned, so that path setup of multi-cast data can be efficiently processed. CONSTITUTION: A mobile terminal transmits a subscriber request message designating options according to a mobility characteristic and a mobile network characteristic to a MSR(Mobility Support Router) of a corresponding external network. The MSR receives the subscriber request message to decide a router for managing location information of the mobile terminal by using a presently maintained multi-cast group information. If the mobile terminal requests to receive a multi-cast service through a router of a network wherein a network address is firstly allocated, the mobile terminal registers self location information in a MSR of the network and receives a response from the MSR. If the MSR of the external network is pre-registered in a corresponding multi-cast group, the MSR directly transmit a subscriber response message to the mobile terminal to inform the completion of a handoff process. If the MSR of the external network is not registered in the multi-cast group, the MSR transmits a join/graft message to subscribe in a routing tree. A response message for the join/graft message is received from an upper router supporting multi-cast, to inform the mobile terminal of the completion of subscription. Accordingly multi-cast data are directly transceived with the upper router of the routing tree. The MSR receives a register request message from the MSR of the external network to store location information of the mobile terminal, and responds for registration by a register response message, then receives a register canceling message. And the MSR performs a relay function of multi-cast data until the location information of the mobile terminal is deleted.

Abstract: 본발명은인터넷멀티캐스트환경에서이동단말을지원하기위한핸드오프제어방법에관한것이다. 본발명은단말이다른네트워크로이동할때 마다해당네트워크의라우터가이동단말의위치정보를유지하도록멀티캐스트그룹에재가입하는방안을기반으로하는데, 이경우이동단말의이동성, 이동하는네트워크의특성및 멀티캐스트경로설정방식의특성에따라잦은멀티캐스트서비스의단절을초래할수 있기때문에, 이러한일시적인통신단절(핸드오프라칭함)에의한멀티캐스트데이터의손실량을최소화시킬수 있도록개선하였으며, 개선방안은이동단말이새로운네트워크로이동할때마다네트워크특성및 환경을체크하여멀티캐스트서비스단절이예상될경우, 멀티캐스트그룹에재가입하지않고, 처음인터넷주소를할당받은네트워크측라우터에자신의위치를등록시킴으로써서비스단절가능성을줄이도록하는방안으로서, 이를통해서인터넷멀티캐스트환경에서이동단말들을지원하는데있어서보다양질의멀티캐스트서비스를제공하는데기여할 수있을것으로기대한다.
