Abstract:
A system and a method for user selectable release modality for a surgical cassette are provided to prevent release of the cassette due to an accident, and to make the release speed balanced. A system for user selectable release modality for a surgical cassette includes the steps of: providing a user interface for enabling a user to select a cassette release mode for a surgical cassette from a cassette release mode set; and measuring whether the release request is performed. The step of releasing the surgical cassette from the surgical device according to the selected cassette release mode includes initiating and completing a cassette release process based on the measurement of whether the release request is performed. A cassette is placed on a cassette receiving vessel.
Abstract:
A fluidic cassette detection mechanism is provided to secure the proper measurement of fluid by accurately positioning a fluidic cassette in a fluidic module. A fluidic cassette detection mechanism includes a fluidic module, a fluidic cassette(12), a detector, and a fluidic module control system. The fluidic cassette is operated to be inserted into the fluidic module and located on the surface of the fluidic module adjacent to a cassette vessel(14). The detector detects the existence of the fluidic cassette. The fluidic module control system receives a cassette detection signal from the detector, and is operated to start a closing command when receiving the detection signal. The detector includes a plurality of mechanical probes, and a plurality of optical interrupt switches. The mechanical probes are extended to the faceplate of the fluidic module. The fluidic module displaces the mechanical probes when the fluidic cassette is inserted into the fluidic module.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical cassette with compliant clamping zones to provide more uniform loading. SOLUTION: According to one embodiment of the present invention, a surgical cassette includes a clamping portion that is configured to deform to conform to non-uniform load profile applied to the cassette. The clamping portion can include ribs that are sized and made of a suitable material such that the ribs will deflect predictably in the elastic region and flow plastically when the material yield point is exceeded. The use of ribs creates discrete small load areas that will deflect and distort predictably and non-catastrophically at high loads. This allows for the absorption of accumulated tolerances between the clamping mechanism and cassette (e.g., the non-parallelism between the clamping mechanism and cassette) while still providing a distributed load on the cassette. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide even and parallel light curtain to solve the problem wherein a linear light source of high-resolution optical liquid level for continuous monitoring of a system generally uses high-diffusion LED array, in order to achieve even light intensity, as a result, it will have a very large visual angle that the rays, i.e., light beams no longer become parallel. SOLUTION: The point source is located on focal point of parabolic reflector to illuminate the parabolic reflector. The parabolic reflector reflects light from the point source to generate parallel light curtain. This parallel light curtain becomes parallel to the symmetric axis of the parabolic reflector, to illuminate ophthalmic surgery chamber for storing fluid. Sensor array, combined with the chamber, detects the parallel light curtain for illuminating the chamber and supplies an output to a sensing, processing, control system in order to determine the liquid level of the chamber. This optical method for determining the liquid level of surgical fluid has the advantage of preventing surgical fluid from physical contamination. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the up-and-down grip of a surgical cassette. SOLUTION: One preferred embodiment includes the surgical cassette having the first side (for example, the inside) and the second side (for example, the outside) which can be employed for a surgical system. The surgical cassette includes a main body of composition of forming interface in a surgical console on the first side at during the use, the first gripper which projects from the upper part of the main body composed so as to touch the first clamp rail on the second side during the use, and the second gripper which projects from the lower part of the main body composed so as to touch the second clamp rail on the second side during the use. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluidic cassette detection mechanism for detecting the presence and the appropriate position of a cassette within a fluid control device. SOLUTION: The fluidic cassette detection mechanism comprises a number of mechanical probes, optical interrupt switches, and miscellaneous components including springs and screws. The probes extend beyond the face of a fluidic module faceplate and beyond rear stops of a set of holding clamps. When the fluidic cassette 12 is inserted into a fluidic module 10 far enough to sufficiently move the probes, the probes trip the switches to signal that the cassette 12 is in the correct position and orientation for a clamping motion to begin. The correct position and orientation are sensed by the use of probes in the mechanism. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a valve device comprising a valve structure in which a valve is normally closed.SOLUTION: The normally closed valve can comprise a circular valve seal face formed by the underside of a rim of an elastomeric valve boss and a circular valve seat, which is formed by the rim of a through-hole molded into, for example, a plastic cassette, such that the valve seal face, the valve seat, and the through-hole are concentric. The valve boss can be a hollow "mushroom" shaped valve boss, or a conical-shaped valve boss. If no force is applied to the inside surface of the valve boss, no fluid can pass through the valve as the valve seal face rests against the valve seat as a result of the steady free-state load created by the stretch of the valve boss over the slightly longer through-hole. When a force is applied to the inside surface of the valve boss, the valve seal face is displaced from the valve seat, allowing fluid between the valve seal face and valve seat to pass between the valve boss and the inside surface of the through-hole.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for allowing a user to select release modality for a surgical cassette as embodiments of this invention. SOLUTION: Example release modes can include an instant or latching mode, a continuous mode or a delay mode. An embodiment of the present invention can include providing a user interface that allows a user to select a cassette release mode for a surgical cassette from a set of cassette release modes, determining that a release request is asserted, and releasing the surgical cassette from surgical instrumentation according to the selected cassette release mode. According to one embodiment, the release modes for the cassette can include an instant mode, a continuous mode and a delay mode. The user can also select, for example, whether the release command can be asserted through a button, user interface or both. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
