A forming press of the pressure cell type comprising a press stand, a pressure cell arranged in the press stand with an elastic diaphragm (23) and a tray-shaped tool-carrying member, which is insertable into the press and in which a forming tool and a work piece are located. According to the invention the pressure cell is formed from a substantially plane diaphragm (22), a substantially plane surface of the press ptate, and a sealing ring (23) disposed around the periphery of the diaphragm to bridge a gap between the diaphragm and the press plate. The sealing ring (23) is U-shaped with its flanges (23a, 23b) directed inward towards the centre of the pressure cell. Inside the sealing ring (23) spring elements (30', 32) are arranged to urge the flanges of the sealing ring outwardly to provide initial contact pressure with the diaphragm and the press plate. respectively.

Forming press of the pressure cell type comprising a press stand with two opposing pressure absorbing elements (11, 12) defining between them a working space into which a carrier member, such as a trough (2), for supporting forming tools (62) and workpieces (60) is insertable, a press plate (20) communicating with a pressure medium source, a diaphragm (22) forming together with the press plate an expansible pressure cell, and side pieces (40, 41 ) extending along the side surfaces of the working space and retaining the diaphragm in abutting contact with a sealing ring (23) disposed around the periphery of the diaphragm, said sealing ring in turn abutting against the press plate (20). According to the invention a quicker and simpler diaphragm exchange as compared to prior art constructions is achieved by arranging the side pieces turnable so, that when upwardly swung, their long sides abut against the underside of the diaphragm, and by providing means for moving the unit formed of the upwardly swung side pieces and the diaphragm out of the working space. The invention also includes a method for changing diaphragms in such a forming press.

In this space there is located a plate (20) with a recess in which an elastic diaphragm (22) is arranged. The diaphragm forms, together with the plate, a pressure cell. Elongated side supports (30, 31) for the diaphragm are provided at the sides of the said space. A tray (2) insertable into the space forms, together with the plate and the diaphragm, a closed press space. The pressure cell is connected to a pressure medium source. Each side support is formed with an elongated recess (36), in which there is arranged an expansible member (37) of elastic material. Each expansible member forms a side support for a press tool (45) located in the tray.

Press plant with a forming press of the pressure cell type with enhanced forming space of the press, especially with regard to depth of the forming space. According to the invention this is accomplished by designing the tray of the press with a planar bottom plate (3) and a detachable tray frame (4) resting on bottom plate (3). To absorb the axial loads induced by the working pressure on the short ends of the tray frame a vertically displaceable annular frame (2) or the like is provided, which is positioned right in front of the short ends of the working space. Owing to this construction the forming space of the press plate will not be restricted by working pressure dependent dimensioning factors.
