    Abstract: A mixture containing a major proportion of one or more dithionites is stabilized by a minor amount of a dry, powdered, readily water-soluble synthetic polymer having a K value between 20 and 280, preferably between 40 and 50, which is not capable of reacting chemically with the dithionites under the conditions of storage and transportation. The dithionites may be those of sodium and other alkali metals, or of zinc, or ammonium dithionite. Polymers which may be used, in amount, say, 1 to 5%, include homo- and co-polymers of (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acrylamide, vinyl alcohol, ethylenimine, vinylpyrrolidone and acetals, and polymers of diethylaminomethylene (meth)acrylamide. The mixture may also contain carbonates, sulphates and polyphosphates.
