    Abstract: PURPOSE: To continuously regenerate even in use and to guarantee high copying image quality over a long period by providing a specific iron oxide-containing surface coating on a steel spherical nucleus sulfuric acid-treated with a specific sulfuric acid aq. solution. CONSTITUTION: The sulfuric acid heated steel spherical nucleus obtained by heating the steel spherical nucleus with the sulfuric acid aq. solution having 10 to 10 mol/l acid concentration at the time of starting the treatment by using 5×10 to 25×10 mol sulfuric acid per 1m surface area of the steel spherical nucleus is used.     Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a wear resistant carrier causing no trouble as a photoconductor by forming metal oxide layers made of reactional product deposited form a vapor phase on core particles made of ferrite or contg. metal iron. CONSTITUTION: A volatile metallic compd. is allowed to react with oxygen and/or water at an elevated temp. in the presence of moving core particles to obtain the objective carrier for a two-component dry developer with metal oxide layers on the core particles made of ferrite or contg. metal iron. For example, iron oxide or titanium dioxide layers are uniformly formed on the core particles. The carrier has the wear resistant metal oxide layers and enables positive and negative charging. Since the thickness of the metal oxide layers can be regulated in accordance with the purpose, electric conductivity can be determined in a specified range independently of the compsn. of the core particles.
