    Abstract: Continuous polymerisation of ethylene using 2-200 mol ppm (on weight of ethylene used) of a substance of formula: where X is COR or CH2OH, and R is H, OH, or a 1-5 C alkyl or alkoxy group. Gives better efficiency in the production of polyethylene, having better tearing properties. A reactor is fed at the rate of 1000000 parts ethylene/hr., 20 parts oxygen/hr., 2600 parts methylethylketone/hr. (regulator) and 121 parts cinnamaldehyde/hr. The reaction is conducted in two zones, (I) at 175 degrees C and (II) at 180 degrees C and the output of polyethylene is 248000 parts/hr. If the reaction is conducted without the addition of cinnamaldehyde the output is 187000 parts/hr.
