(B)), with viscosity index 60-80 ml/g (0.5 wt.% soln. in dimethyl formamide at 23 degrees C); (C) 20-50 wt.% graft polymer obtd. from (C1) 50-80 wt.% monomer mixt. core comprising (C11) 50-100 wt.% 1,3-diene and (C12) 0-50 wt.% vinyl aromatic monomer, and (C2) 20-50 wt.% graft obtd. by polymerisation in the presence of (C1) of a mixt. comprising (C21) 40-100 wt.% (meth)acrylic acid 1-8C alkyl ester and (C22) 0-60 wt.% vinyl aromatic monomer, with mean particle size of (C) 40-500 nm; and (D) 0-20 wt.% standard additives (w.r.t. sum of (A)-(C)). The sum of (A)-(C) is 100 wt.% and the difference in break index between (C) and the mixt. of (A), (B) and opt. (D) is less than 0.005. Also claimed are (i) prepn. of (I) by compounding (A)-(D) at 200-300 degrees C; (ii) use of (I) for making moulded prods.; and (iii) moulded prods. made from (I).

    Abstract: Prepn. of deep draw-modified thermoplastics (T) by mechanical dewatering of a wet elastomer component (A) contg. up to 50 wt.% residual water and mixing dewatered (A) with a thermoplastic polymer (B) in a screw - by adding (A) to a twin-screw extruder with 3-way rotating screws. This extruder contains the following sections (in the direction of flow): (1) feed for adding (A) to the extruder; (2) at least one crusher for dewatering (A) that contains one or more barriers each with an opening through which at least some of the water passes as a liq.; (3) at least one section to which molten (B) is added; (4) one or more sections with mixing, kneading and/or plasticising devices; (5) at least one degassing section with one or more gas outlets through which water is removed as steam; and (6) an exit zone. Also claimed are deep draw-modified moulding materials prepd. by this process.

(A)+(B)+(C)+(D) = 100%, and the difference between the RI of (C) and that of the mixt. of (A), (B), (D) and opt. (E) is less than 0.005. Mfr. of the compsn. comprises mixing the components at 200-300 degrees C.

Also claimed are moulded prods contg. (I) as the essential component.
