Abstract: A depilatory comprises an aqueous solution of thioglycolic acid and, as thickening agent, an alkylmercaptoethanesulphonic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof. Preferably the alkyl-mercaptoethane sulphonic acid has an alkyl group containing 8 to 20 carbon atoms e.g. dodecylmercaptoethanesulphonic acid and the salt may be the sodium, potassium or ammonium salt. Optional agents are reducing agents and keratin protective agents such as cystine and methionine.ALSO:A liquid permanent waving preparation comprises an aqueous solution of thioglycolic acid and, as thickening agent, an alkylmercaptoethanesulphonic acid or a water-soluble salt thereof.
