    Abstract: The production of polymer powder comprises drying an aqueous dispersion of a polymer (A) in which the dispersed particles have a positive or negative electric charge on the surface. The process comprises adding, as auxiliary drying agent, a polyelectrolyte (B) which, in its dissociated form as poly-ion and counter-ion is soluble in the aqueous dispersion medium and in which the charge on the poly-ion is opposite to the surface charge on the dispersed polymer. Also claimed are: (i) the polymer powder obtained by this process; and (ii) the polymer powder containing charged spherical particles of (A) and a polyelectrolyte (B).

    Abstract: Aqueous compositions containing a filler and a copolymer based on a vinyl aromatic monomer and a conjugated diene, in which the copolymer also contains 0.1-4.5 wt.% of monomer unit(s) with acid or acid anhydride group(s) and optionally a water-soluble monomer without acid or anhydride groups.     Abstract: The process for drying aqueous dispersions of a polymer (B), in which the dispersion contains, as auxiliary drying agent, at least one polymer (A) containing (in polymerised form) 80-100 wt.% monomer(s) (a) of formula CH2CR1C(O)XCR2R3-R4-SOH (I) or salts thereof and 0-20 wt.% other radically polymerisable monomer(s) (b), in which R1-3 = H or 1-3 C alkyl; R4 = 1-5 C alkylene; and X = O or NH. Also claimed are: (i) the polymer powder containing (A) and (B); (ii) the mineral binder containing such polymer powder(s); (iii) the synthetic resin-plaster drying preparation containing such powder(s); (iv) the aqueous polymer dispersions of (B) with an emulsifier content of not more than 2 wt.%, containing (A) with a Mw of 5000-35,000 as added dispersant; (v) the process for the radical aqueous emulsion polymerisation of ethylenic monomers, in which (A) with a Mw of 5000-35000 is added before, during or after polymerisation; and (vi) the polymer powder obtained by drying as above.

    Abstract: The production of polymer powder (I) suitable for the modification of mineral binder building materials, involves drying an aqueous polymer dispersion which forms films with a Tg of not above 30 degrees C, where before drying, the dispersion is treated with drying agents (IIa) which have a liquefying action on the mineral binder when it is mixed with water and ready for use; after drying, the powder (I) is treated with finely divided solid additive(s) (IIIa) which have a solidifying action on the binder/water mix. Alternatively, the dispersion is treated with solidifying driers (IIb) before drying, and the dried powder is treated with finely divided solid additives (IIIb) which have a liquefying action on the mix. Also claimed are: (i) polymer powder (I) obtained by this process; (ii) mineral binders containing (I); and (iii) dry mortar preparations containing 20-60 wt% mineral binder, 0.1-20 wt% (I) and up to 25 wt% conventional additives, the remainder consisting of sand, fillers, pigments and natural and/or synthetic fibres.
