    Abstract: A multi-trace element fertilizer which contains magnesium as a further nutrient and in which the complex-forming trace elements are present in the form of anionic chelates with one or more N-carboxyalkylaminoacids is prepared by a process wherein the N-carboxyalkylaminoacids are reacted, in the presence of water, with the trace elements or trace element compounds in a molar ratio of N-carboxyalkylaminoacids to trace elements or trace element compounds of not less than 0.8:1, at least 20% by weight of the trace element compounds being oxides, hydroxides and/or carbonates. At the same time, or subsequently, the pH of the solution is brought to 3.5-6 by adding a member selected from the group consisting of magnesium oxide, hydroxide and carbonate. A maximum of 50 equivalent percent of the magnesium compound may however be replaced by a member selected from the group consisting of alkali metal oxides, hydroxides and carbonates and ammonia.

    Abstract: Melamine is made by heating urea, and/or its thermal decomposition products, at 300-450 DEG C. in the presence of added ammonia or gas containing ammonia and a catalyst comprising aluminium oxide which has been prepared by calcining bohmite, bayerite, hydrargyllite or a mixture thereof at 700-1000 DEG C. The added ammonia may be in the form of the off-gas containing CO2 which is obtained after removing melamine from the reaction gases. The catalyst may be regenerated by treatment with ammonia at elevated temperatures. The process is effected in a continuous manner. The examples relate to a catalyst obtained by calcining a mixture of bohmite and bayerite.

    Abstract: Melamine is produced by heating urea and/or its thermal decomposition products at above 280 DEG C. in two stages in the presence of catalysts and ammonia or gases containing ammonia (e.g. recycled gas), the first stage comprising vaporizing the urea or decomposition product at 370 DEG -450 DEG C., and introducing the vapour and gas ito a second stage at 330 DEG -370 DEG C., the catalysts in the two stages being at least partly exchanged continuously or periodically. The second stage may consist of a plurality of zones; the catalysts may be fluidized. An example uses alumina as catalyst.
