Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a large-capacity recording medium having a lightfastness much more excellent than a recording medium having characteristics currently known by using a specific oxoporphyrin metal complex as a recording layer. SOLUTION: This optical recording medium has a recording layer substantially comprising at least one dye represented by formula I (wherein R1 and R2 are each a 1-8C alkyl or a 2-8C alkenyl; R3 , R6 , R9 , and R12 are each H, a halogen, CN, etc.; R4 , R5 , R7 , R8 , R10 , and R11 are each H, a halogen NO2 , CHO, etc.; and M is H2 , a divalent metal atom, an oxometal, a halogenometal, a hydroxymetal, etc.), or its chlorination or bromination product. This oxoporphyrin dye has a refractive index of 1.8 or higher in the range of 400-500nm. A substrate used is pref. transparent and has a thickness of 0.01-10mm. The recording layer is sandwiched between the substrates and a reflecting layer and has a thickness of 10-100nm. The absorbance of the recording layer is 0.1-1.0 at the absorption max. The thickness of the reflecting layer is 10-150nm. The reflectance of the optical recording medium as a whole is 60% or higher.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording medium of which the recording layer has a large recording capacity and has other excellent characteristics in combina tion as well. SOLUTION: This recording medium includes a substrate, a reflection layer and the recording layer. The recording layer substantially consists of the dye expressed by the formula. In the formula, Y is an anion of inorg. or org. metal acid or their mixture; Z is a proton metal cation, ammonium cation or phosphonium cation or their mixture; m, n are 1 to 3 independently from each other; p and q are 0 to 4; the stoichiometric numerical values of o, p and q are so determined that the excess positive charges or negative charges do not exist at all in the formula. The substituents described above are, if desired, so connected to each other that a 5-membered or 6-membered ring is formed by direct coupling or via a bridge -O- or -NR12 -. This novel recording medium is a high-sensitivity recording medium and has good reproduction characteristics.

There is also claimed a novel process for the preparation of some of these compounds corresponding to formula III wherein M is a divalent metal, oxometal, halogenometal or hydroxymetal, or 2 hydrogen atoms, X is halogen, or 2 X in vicinal position on a phenyl ring form together a -C=C-C=C- bridge so that an additional phenyl ring is obtained, Y is -OR1, -OOC-R2, -NHR1, -N(R1)R2 or -SR1, x is 0 or a number from 1 to 8, y depending on z is a number from z to 4, and z is a number from 1 to 4, by reacting a compound of formula IV wherein M, X, Y, x and y are as defined in formula III, with z mol each of dimethylformamide and phosphoryl chloride.

Abstract: The invention relates to phthalocyanines and metal complexes thereof with divalent metals or divalent oxo metals, which contain at least one phosphorus-containing substituent bonded to the peripheral carbon skeleton via the phosphorus atom. The compounds preferably conform to the general structural formula (G)k-A-(Q)1, in which A is a phthalocyanine or metal complex thereof with a divalent metal or a divalent oxo metal, G is a phosphorus-containing substituent, Q is a further substituent as defined below, the index k is a number from 1 to 16, and 1, independently thereof, is 0 or a number from 1 to 15, with the proviso that the sum of k and l is a number less than or equal to 16. The invention also relates to a material for the optical recording and storage of information, in which at least one storage layer (2) of a novel phthalocyanine compound or a metal complex thereof has been applied to a transparent, dielectric carrier material (1).

I) in which R1 and R6 are hydrogen or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralkyl or aryl, R6 and R7 are unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aralky or aryl, R3, R4, R8 and R9 are hydrogen, halogen, OR17, SR17, NR18R19, NO2, alkyl, alkenyl or Alkynyl, R5 and R10 are hydrogen, halogen, OR17, SR17, NO2, NR18R19 or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or aralkyl, and R11 is hydrogen, (CH2)1-10COO, (CH2)1-10COOR24, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl or unsubstituted or substituted aralkyl or aryl; Y is the anion of an inorganic, organic or organometallic acid, Z is a metal cation, ammonium cation or phosphonium cation, m, n and o are from 1 to 3, and p and q are from 0 to 4; and the stoichiometry of o, p and q is such as not to result in any excess positive or negative charge in the formula (I). The substituents can, if desired, be connected to one another in such a way, via a direct bond or via a bridge -O- or -NR12-, as to form additional five- or six-membered rings. The novel recording media are of high sensitivity and have good reproduction characteristics.

Abstract: An optical recording medium comprising a substrate, a reflecting layer and a recording layer, which recording layer consists essentially of one or more than one dye of formula (I) or chlorination or bromation products thereof (see fig.I) wherein R1 and R2 are each independently of the other C1-C6alkyl or C2-C8alkenyl; R3, R6, R9 and R12 are hydrogen, halogen, CN, CHO, C1-C8alkyl or unsubstituted or substituted C6-C14aryl; R4, R5, R7, R8, R10 and R11 are hydrogen, halogen, NO2, CHO, COOR13, CONR14R15, CN or unsubstituted or substituted C1-C8alkyl or C2-C8alkenyl; or R4 and R5, R7 and R8 and/or R10 and R11 together are an unsubstituted or substituted 1,4-buta-1,3-dienylene, 2-buten-1,4-diylidene, 1,3-propylene or 1,4-butylene bridge, so as to form, optionally together with the shared C-C or C=C group, a five- or six-membered ring; and M is H2 or a divalent metal atom, oxometal, halogenometal or hydroxymetal which may be coordinaled to one or two neutral ligands. The recording media of this invention have high sensitivity and resolution as well as good reproduction characteristics.
