Abstract: The present invention provides a security scanning system configured to scan an item. The security scanning system comprises a scanning zone, an entrance into the scanning zone, an exit out of the scanning zone, and a transport structure configured to move the item into, through, and out of the scanning zone. The entrance comprises a first entrance door and a second entrance door, and the exit comprises a first exit door and a second exit door. The security scanning system further comprises a controller configured to control the first and second entrance doors and the first and second exit doors so that one of the first and second entrance doors shields the entrance when the other one of the first and second entrance doors is at least partly open, and so that one of the first and second exit doors shields the exit when the other one of the first and second exit doors is at least partly open.
