Abstract: 1,228,632. Wax emulsion. FARBWERKE HOECHST A.G. 31 July, 1968 [5 Aug., 1967], No. 36552/68. Heading B1V. [Also in Division C3] An aqueous wax emulsion comprises by weight 10% to 40% ester wax having an acid number of 2 to. 100, 1% to 15% non-ionic emulsifier, 89% to 45% water, and 0.25 to 3 equivalents, relative to the free carboxyl groups in the wax, of a water-soluble salt of one or more of zinc, aluminium and cadmium. The salt may be chloride, nitrate, sulphate, propionate, acetate. In a modification, up to 50% of the ester wax is replaced by oxidised or non-oxidised paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax or emulsifiable polyolefin wax. Ester waxes referred to are carnauba, ouricury, candelilla waxes, and waxes obtained by oxidation of deresinated or non-deresinated montan wax and subsequent esterification. Emulsifiers are preferably 5-30 mol ethylene oxide adducts of fatty alcohols, acids or amines or alkyl phenols. A composition contains the emulsion and up to 80% of an aqueous polymer dispersion (see Group C3). Optional components include alkali-soluble resin, wax-soluble resin, plasticizer, solvent, dyestuff, amine, non-volatile alkali, all unexemplified.
