Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and method for wirelessly authenticating a user by use of an acquired biometrics (e.g., fingerprint) and a locally stored biometric template. SOLUTION: A smart card system that is utilized in biometric authentication is slow in processing, and the card itself includes the added disadvantage of being misplaced or lost. Moreover, storing biometric data (on a database) over a network poses security issues that in extreme instances can be compromised. Significant security can be achieved if the biometric template 406 is stored locally in a portable device 404. A user 402 can use the portable device 404 to either transmit wirelessly the stored biometric for authentication purposes, or the user can locally measure a biometric using the portable device and match it against a biometric which is also stored locally (in the portable device). Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for authenticating a user by a radio communication, using an acquired bio-metric (for example fingerprint) and a bio-metric template stored locally. SOLUTION: A smart card system used for bio-metric authentication is slow in a processing speed, and the card itself has additionally demerits of erroneous storage or loss. A problem of security of the possibility exposed to risk is exhibited in storage (in a database) of a bio-metric data via a network. High security is attained when the bio-metric template is stored locally in a portable device. The user uses the portable device to radio-transmit the bio-metric stored for the authentication, or measures locally the bio-metric using the portable device to collated with bio-metric stored locally (in the portable device).
