Abstract: A display control system for an augmented reality, AR, display system, the AR display system comprising a transparent display area 120 adapted to augment an object 170 or scene viewable through the transparent display by displaying a visual element 210 in the transparent display. The display control system comprises: a focal point detection unit adapted to determine point of focus (P, figure 2) of user 160; and a processing unit adapted to determine offset distance d by which the determined point of focus is spaced from the transparent display area, and to generate a control signal for modifying the transparency of the visual element based on the determined offset distance. The opacity of the visual element may be decreased in proportion with the offset distance. The point of focus may be determined by tracking the users eyes.

Abstract: System and method that overlays an output (eg. text, images or video on a coloured background) on a background (eg. screen, billboard) (14, Fig. 1) comprising: determining a desired colour 22 for the output; analysing the actual colour 20 of the background; calculating what output colour 28 will give the desired colour when superimposed on the background colour. The system includes a display such as a head-mounted display (HMD) (16, Fig. 1) and a camera (18, Fig. 1) that detects the background. The computed output colour may vary at a per pixel or per pixel block level according to background colour variations. A mathematical formula may be used to generate red, green and blue values for the adjusted foreground overlay colour based on background RGB values. The augmented reality display may be see-through, semi-transparent or translucent and a display transparency value 26 may be used in the correction of the foreground colour.
