Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a low power consumption in a RAID (redundant arrays of inexpensive disks) system using a plurality of hard disk drives. SOLUTION: Striping data 102-104 and its parity data 105 are generated from writing data and striping data 102-104 are recorded in three hard disk drives 102-103. The parity data 105 are recorded in hard disk drives 106 and 107 respectively. An auxiliary hard disk 109 is activated at proper timing and the parity data 105 are moved to there. Thus, the power consumption for one hard disk drive conventionally needed for parity data is saved. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
