Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism for temporarily stopping DMA operation selected in a physical I/O adapter in order to allow data to migrate between physical pages which receive accesses by the physical I/O adapter. SOLUTION: When receiving a request for DMA to the physical page in a system memory from the I/O adapter, migration in progress display (MIP) bit in a transformation control entry (TCE) pointing to the physical page is examined. The MIP bit expresses whether or not migration to other locations in the system memory with respect to the physical page referred to in the TCE is in process. When the MIP bit expresses that the migration of the physical page is in progress, DMA from the I/O adapter is temporarily stopped, whereas other DMA operation to other physical pages in the system memory from other I/O adapters are permitted to continue. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for providing failover operation for a connection between a first PCIe bridge and a first input/output (IO) device.SOLUTION: A first set of bussed bits is exchanged between the first PCIe bridge and the first IO device over a first link using a first set of lanes of the first PCIe bridge. In response to detecting the failure in the first link, the first set of bussed bits is exchanged between the first PCIe bridge and the first IO device using an unused portion of a second link connecting a second PCIe bridge and a second IO device.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failover operation for a connection between a PCIE bridge and an input/output (IO) device.SOLUTION: A first set of bussed bits is exchanged between a first PCIE bridge and a first IO device over a first link using a first set of lanes of the first PCIE bridge. In response to detecting a failure in the first link, the first set of lanes is swapped with a second set of lanes of the first PCIE bridge over a second link using the second set of lanes. The second link connects a second PCIE bridge with a second IO device. In response to detecting the failure in the first link, at an IO device end, the first set of lanes is switched with the second set of lanes for exchanging the second set of bussed bits between the first PCIE bridge and the first IO device over the second link using the second set of lanes.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To change a specific adaptor card without reducing the total electric power of a computer system by preparing a single connector slot to accept a card that executes a specific function of an input/output device, a memory, etc. SOLUTION: A PCI bridge chip 203 performs the interrupt processing, the transfer of messages, the arbitration, the snooping, etc. Furthermore, a logic and a function are added to attain the conversion of a bus protocol between a system bus and an input/output bus 202. The bus 202 is connected to at least a driver/receiver module 204 which offers an interface between an actual adaptor slot 206 including a connector and the additional logic and the bus 202. The slot 206 accepts an input/output device 208. In such a constitution, a user can replace a specific adaptor card with another without turning off the system power supply.
