    Abstract: 1275533 Selective signalling; display devices INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 1 Feb 1971 3638/71 Headings G4H and G5C A display device for a data processing system comprises an indicator (e.g. lamps) responsive to information to be displayed, a roller blind having a plurality of legends thereon, means for winding and unwinding the blind so that a particular legend is adjacent to the indicator and means for connecting the indicator to the processor so that it displays information corresponding to the particular legend. The means for connecting senses position-indicating coded marks on the blind and decodes them to select a register in the processor, the contents of the register being gated to the lamps. The sensing is done photoelectrically when the marks are clear/opaque areas, or using spring-loaded plungers making electrical contact in the presence of holes when the marks are presence/absence of punched holes. The blind is attached at its two ends by adhesive tape to respective rollers one of which is spring-biased by a clock spring. A manual knob or motor is used for positioning the blind.

    Abstract: An adjustable support for a display monitor includes a turntable to allow swivelling and carrying a pair of support tubes on which is mounted a slidable support beam. A carrier having cylindrical bearing surfaces co-operates with skid-pads on the support beam. By sliding the carrier with respect to the support beam the angle of the carrier and hence the angle of the display screen can be varied. A non-magnetic gas strut located in one of the support tubes compensates for the weight of the monitor/carrier assembly. The force exerted by the gas strut is shared between the support tubes by means of a pair of coupled rack and pinions which also allow convenient height adjustment of the support beam, carrier and display monitor.
