    Abstract: To provide a method, for a computer system to which a plurality of display devices can be connected, for managing the power supply to individual display devices. [Constitution] For the configuration of the present invention, as a further determination condition, resource information is added, concerning the positions (524 and 532) of a mouse pointer and of an active window, to a determination condition of a current screen DIM/saver that constitutes the operating state for a keyboard/mouse. The positions of the resources on a plurality of screens are determined, and when they have not been displayed on a specific monitor for a specific period of time, that monitor is moved to a low power consumption mode (a low power operating state). According to one aspect of the present invention, a computer that can be connected to a plurality of display devices comprises: means for determining whether screens of the plurality of display devices satisfy a predetermined condition; and means, based on the result obtained by the determination means, for changing the operating state of at least one of the display devices that satisfy the predetermined condition.

    Abstract: Provided is an information processing system which prevents data destruction resulting from the replacement of a floppy disk during a low power-consumption mode in which a floppy disk controller and a floppy disk drive are powered off. In the process of returning from hibernation mode to a normal operation mode, an I/O address showing a change line status register of the floppy disk controller is set to a stored register of the trap logic (status 173). When the process returns to the normal operation mode and then an access to the first status register is trapped, a change line status flag value is rewritten (status 174). The OS/driver responds to the faked status and invalidates the floppy disk allocation information in the main memory.

    Abstract: APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR HIBERNATION FILE CREATION A file with a predetermined name is created in a logical drive by selecting one such logical drive which the OS/file system can access and which is larger than a predetermined size using an OS file system. The fact is then notified to the PM (power management) that said file was created. The presence of confirmation that a file with a predetermined name was read from the PM code determines whether or not the creation of a hibernation file is appropriate at the drive.

    Abstract: To execute a series of operations for hibernation and wake-up at a high speed in a system in which an address for saving the content of the main memory serves as a hibernation file managed by the OS file system , when the information processing system enters hibernation mode, the system accesses an area on an external storage device where file allocation information managed by the OS file system thereby obtaining allocation information of the hibernation file and input the information into a buffer. The system uses allocation information in the buffer to save the content of the main memory and VRAM as well as allocation information into the hibernation file. In addition, the address information at the location on the external storage device where allocation information is saved is stored in a predetermined control information area. When the system is woken up, allocation information already residing in the hibernation file is used to restore the main memory and VRAM from the hibernation file.
