    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To request another computer device to perform part of client's operation by processing a stream of messages and transferring the resulting stream of messages to a receiver's application. SOLUTION: A stream of messages issued while an issuer application P111 is composed as a tupple is sent to a quene manager 12, the stream is transferred to a relative message broker 13 for message processing, and the resulting stream is allocated to specific subscribers, sent back to the queue manager 12, and transferred to subscriber's applications S1 15a to 15c. The output of a filter 21 is connected to the input of a coupling computing element 22 and a filtered message stream is received as a 1st input. When a coupling node 22 receives an issued message from the output of the filter node 21, a proper data base tupple is accessed, read out of the data base 14, and combined with the issued message.

    Abstract: A graphics system for a graphical user interface in which a plurality of screen objects are displayed is disclosed. Conventional systems include targeting means for determining a screen object targeted by the pointer; and selection means comprising means for reading a pointer selection and means for selecting a targeted screen object. The invention includes targeting means comprising means for generating, according to the proximity of the pointer position to a screen object, a weighting associated with each screen object, the weighting being in inverse proportion to the displayed size of the associated screen object, and wherein the determining means is adapted to determine the targeted screen object according to the respective weightings associated with the screen objects. This has the effect of surrounding each object, eg 42, with an acquirement zone 43, large for small objects and vice versa. Any overlap of zones is subject to a limiting rule.

    Abstract: Provided is a data processing system and a method for generating states of a model defined within a modelling application. The modelling application generates a state of the model based on the values of a number of input variables. A modification means alters the values of the input variables, and provides those altered values to the modelling application to cause a new state of the model to be generated. The modification means repeats the production of altered values such that a set of states of the model is generated. A display means produces a graphical representation of each state of the model in the set and displays the graphical representations on a display device. The system includes control means, responsive to signals received from an input device, to enable a user to select graphical representations from those displayed and to place the selected graphical representations in a predetermined area of the display device; and weighting means for automatically assigning a weighting to each graphical representation within the predetermined area, this weighting being dependant on the position of the graphical representation within the predetermined area. The modification means is responsive to the weighting of each state of the model to produce altered input variables for a subsequent set of states of the model. The generation of the set of states of the model and display of their graphical representations is then repeated.

    Abstract: A data processing apparatus has: a memory unit 402; a system software unit 401 including a plurality of parsers 401A, 401B, for implementing a Document Object Mode (DOM) application programming interface, including a unit for receiving documents from an originating application 11, 21 and a unit for processing received documents using one of the parsers in order to convert each received document into an object model; and a system software unit for storing each object model into the memory unit; where the unit for processing sends a received document to a particular one of the plurality of parsers depending on the format of the received document. This allows the DOM to accept documents in formats other than XML/HTML, e.g in COBOL.
