Abstract:
An improved method for backup and recovery based on linked file repositories (210, 212, 214), each representing an own file system capable of storing one version of a file and being connected to a least one server system (102) is claimed; wherein each file repository (210, 212, 214) is placed in a certain position storing a certain version of said file; wherein positions of said file repositories (210, 212, 214) are continuously numbered; wherein a number of the certain version of the file is determined by the position of said corresponding file repository (210, 212, 214); wherein a version-movement process over all file repositories (210, 212, 214) is implemented to perform a file write operation; and wherein a version-recovery process over all file repositories (210, 212, 214) is implemented to perform a file-read operation of a certain file version.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To disclose an apparatus, system, and method for data migration of retention data between a plurality of data retention systems. SOLUTION: The system includes a first back-end agent for accessing a first data retention system according to a first communication protocol, a first front-end agent for interfacing between the first back-end agent and the second front-end agent, and a second back-end agent for interfacing between the second front-end agent and a second data retention system according to a second communication protocol. The present invention allows a user to migrate retained data from one retention data system to another while maintaining data attributes such as retention time. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for logging information from a plurality of logging applications regarding a computer system. SOLUTION: A registry is configured to identify the logging applications, and the plurality of logging applications are configured to identify the logged information in accordance with a common protocol and in accordance with the registry. A logging control is configured to analyze the logged information, and configured to save the logged information in accordance with the analysis. The registry is configured to be updated in accordance with the logging applications. The logging control is configured to analyze the logged information in accordance with the plurality of logging applications. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switch for displaying information to be simultaneously read by a plurality of devices present on a plurality of planes in the cartridge of a detachable medium. SOLUTION: A rotary switch 740 rotates around a shaft 741 forming a sharp angle to a lower cartridge surface 720 and a cartridge end 704, and thus first and second display surfaces 742 and 743 are independently accessed by essentially different components present on essentially different planes. These display surfaces are generally orthogonal to each other, a plurality of facets are provided, and each facet includes an information subset. To support this optical reading/writing, the display surface is generally orthogonal to an essentially different reading/writing component. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard disk drive pick device and a method for transferring a disk drive from one of a plurality of storage bins in a library to a destination which can electrically interconnect the disk drive with a computer. SOLUTION: The pick device 10 includes a back plane adapted so as to provide input/output interconnection between a power source or a disk drive and the destination while transferring the disk drive.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system, a method, and a computer program for performing verification by reading information out of the data track and servo track of a cleaner tape by a tape drive when an input/output converter of the tape drive is cleaned. SOLUTION: A positive cleaning front coat section of the cleaner tape is used in order to provide a cleaning action and also provide cleanness of a data reading element, a data writing element, and a servo head. A cleaning section with small abrasiveness can be used in order to remove not so tough dirt. In this method, cleanness of the data reading element, data writing element, and servo head is verified. In a leading section of a self-characterizing section, the cleaning section is usable. In an alternative method, a data tape section may be included for self-characterizing. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a library of hard disk drives with transparent emulating interface. SOLUTION: The hard disk drives are shelved in associated storage locations in the library. A library controller translates the logical address of a requested hard disk drive known to the requesting host computer to a physical address or location within the library. A picker preferably mounts the requested disk drive to a destination receptacle which may be part of a backplane of the library, and the controller accesses the hard disk drive. Library operation is transparent to the host computer, the host computer emulating a selected type of a storage device.
Abstract:
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method, a system, and a computer program, for storing convolution-encoded data in a RAID. SOLUTION: A RAID uses convolution encoding to provide redundancy of the striped data written to the devices. No parity is utilized in the convolution encoding process. Trellis decoding is used for both reading the data from the RAID and rebuilding missing encoded data from one or more failed devices, based on a minimal, and preferably zero, Hamming distance for selecting the connected path through the trellis diagram. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a library of a hard disk drive with a transmissive emulating interface. SOLUTION: A hard disk drive is shelved at a related storage position inside a library. A library control device converts a logical address which is known for a request side host computer, of a requested hard disk drive into a physical address or a position inside the library. It is preferable for a picker to load the requested disk drive onto a destination plug socket which can be made a part of a back plane of the library, and a control device accesses the hard disk drive. A library operation is transmissive for the host computer and the library emulates the storage device of a selected type. COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI
