Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the same as a target object visible without excluding a clone object from the viewpoint of a user by correcting a copied object so as to be viewed in the same size and the same direction as a first object or at the same position in the case of being displayed. SOLUTION: A copy 140 copying a red cube 115 is made semitransparent and a surface shielded by a green cube 120 is made into sub-visible state. However, the color of an overlap part 145 between the red cube 115 and the green cube 120 is a little mixed. In the latter case, the clone copy 140 does not shield any other object. Therefore, a target object is functioned so as to shied these objects away from the viewpoint of a user or along the user's viewpoint. Thus, when the target object is shielded with the other surface on its front face, the target object is made into clone when it is viewed from the user, this target object is modeled so as to be arranged near the user and the scenery of an image is formed.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress discontinuity between a two-dimensional(2D) image and the peripheral objects of 3D virtual reality world by deforming the 2D image while using a novel pyramid-shaped panel structure, and adjusting the disappear point of the image corresponding to the move of a user. SOLUTION: A screen/panel is divided into four triangular areas 145-1 to 145-4. The point, where four areas cross, is located at a disappear point P (S140). A current viewpoint V of the user is determined and a vector T-is projected from an ideal viewpoint IVP toward the current position V of the user. Each time the user moves, a new disappear point P' is calculated according to the relational expression of P'=P+T-. Four triangular areas 145-1 to 145-4 are deformed inside the 3D space of 3D virtual world (S155). The texture mapping of correspondent images displayed in the areas 145-1 to 145-4 is respectively performed on the pyramid-shaped panels 145-1 to 145-4 (S160).

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an effective display technique even other than the so-called 'corridor-like' two-dimensional image such as a road in the integration of a three-dimensional computer graphic and a two-dimensional image in order to provide a three-dimensional virtual reality (virtual reality experience. SOLUTION: Viewpoing change is processed by two-dimensional polygon division. Each polygon corresponds to a plotted surface in the image, and a polygon vertex is connected to user movement so as to limit distortion. Concretely, an image point that is far away from a user's viewpoint plane (view plane) is moved while closely connected with the movement of a user's current viewpoint. When a viewer moves so as to separate from the ideal viewpoint (IVP: ideal viewing point) of the image in this way, image distortion caused by the movement reacts so as to suppress the distortion.

Abstract: A limitation of a three-dimensional world in which objects in the distan ce may be represented in only two dimensions as a video on a screen occurs when a computer graphic object represented by computer graphics, e.g., in front of, to the side, above, or below the video screen, undergoes a trajectory that takes it to a location in the world that is not represented as computer graphics, but instead is within the field represented by the video, because such an object would disappear from view by the viewer. This limitation is overcome by having by determinin g when a computer graphic object undergoes a trajectory that takes it to a location in the world that is not represented as computer graphics, but instead is withi n the field represented by the video, and representing such an object as computer graphi cs in front of the screen to which at least one perspective transformation is applied, the perspective transformation being at least a function of the position at whic h the object is actually located.

Abstract: Although in my co-pending application, so-called "pyramidic panel structures" are employed to adjust the image's vanishing point(s) in accordance with the movement of the user, such structures have the disadvantage that they work primarily for so-called "corridor-like" two-dimensional images. I have recognized that, in accordance with the principles of the invention, viewpoint changes may be also dealt with by partitioning the two-dimensional image into polygon partitions, each corresponding to a surface being depicted in the image, and then coupling the vertices of the polygon partitions with the movement of the user so as to limit distortions. In this latter approach, two-dimensional images are not treated as a perspective, corridor-like image, thereby allowing a wider variety of two-dimensional images to be used with the present invention.
