The reverse link receiver noise is measured in an OFDMA system by nulling transmission from access terminals within a cell and nearby during a null time and frequency interval. To measure the reverse link interference, local null time and frequency intervals are designated, the access terminals within the cell null their transmissions during the designated local null time and frequency intervals, and interference power is measured in the local null time and frequency intervals.
